Capsül is the project of Sébastien Gonin, a sole proprietor based in Nice, France. Passionate about the intersection of technology and human emotion, Sébastien designed Capsül after a simple observation: in a world where every message is read in seconds and forgotten in minutes, the most important words get lost in the endless stream of notifications. The idea grew from a personal memory — a handwritten letter found years later, whose emotional impact was magnified by the passage of time. Capsül was born from this conviction: technology can serve the intimate, the precious, the profound. Not just the instant.

Imagine writing to your child on the day of their birth, a message they'll read at 18. Imagine writing to yourself, for 5 years from now, to remember who you were and what you dreamed of becoming. Imagine a teacher writing an encouragement to each student, to be opened on graduation day. Imagine a couple sealing their vows in a capsül, to be reread on each wedding anniversary. Capsül transforms each of these moments into a rendezvous with the future. It's not just a message — it's a promise that travels through time, intact and charged with all the emotion of the moment it was written.
Capsül relies on an infrastructure designed for security and longevity. Your messages are hosted on secure cloud servers, with photos stored on Cloudflare R2, a globally distributed storage solution. Data is replicated across multiple data centers to ensure resilience against hardware failures. Each capsül is protected by a unique, randomly generated access link, accessible only to its recipient. When the opening date arrives, an automated system sends an email notification to the recipient, inviting them to discover the message that was waiting for them. The entire process is designed to operate autonomously.
Longevity is at the heart of Capsül. How do you ensure a message written today will still be accessible in 5, 10, or even 20 years? Our approach rests on three pillars. First, cloud redundancy: your data is stored across multiple geographic locations simultaneously, eliminating any single point of failure. Second, active notifications: rather than passively waiting for the recipient to return, Capsül sends reminder emails on the opening date, with follow-ups if needed. Finally, regular data backups provide an additional layer of protection. We're building Capsül to last, because your words deserve to travel through time.
Our vision for the future is ambitious. We're working to enrich capsüls with new formats — video messages, voice recordings, photos and documents — so every memory can be captured in its most authentic form. We're also exploring collaborative capsüls, where multiple people can contribute to a single message for a loved one. Imagine a collective memory album given to a friend for their 50th birthday, or a digital guestbook from a company for its founders. Capsül aims to become the global reference for temporal communication, a bridge between present and future for the moments that truly matter.
