The right words, at the right moment
What you feel today may never come out this well again. Write it now, choose the day they read it.
A declaration written in advance is worth what it noticed, not its adjectives. A capsül can't be called back once it's sealed, and it arrives on the planned date whatever happens in between. What follows talks about that risk plainly, then shows three messages without a single "my love".
The first anniversary
Write at the start of the story. Delivered a year later, to the day.
Before the proposal
A message written months ahead, delivered the day after the yes.
What I can't say out loud
The words that don't survive being spoken. Schedule them.
Ten years from now
Remind them why, once the routine has set in.
What do you say instead of the big words?
What only you have noticed. The way he folds his socks in three. The evening she laughed in the cinema during a sad scene, and the whole row turned round.
"I love you" tells them nothing they don't already know. "You hum when you cook and think nobody can hear" does.
A precise detail proves you were paying attention.
What if it doesn't last?
The message will arrive anyway, and you have to write it knowing that. If you split up before the date, the other person will receive what you wrote when it was true.
That can be hard. It can also be fair.
To limit the risk, aim for a date that isn't far off. Without buying anything, Capsül accepts up to 180 days; the first pack covers a year. Save the ten-year dates for when you've got a few years behind you.
Not every capsule ends well, as a few famous flops show. For the shape of the message, this guide helps you get away from stock phrases.
What does a cliché-free declaration look like?
Facts, habits, places. Three messages, from three stages of a relationship.
Lily, A year ago, you turned up twenty minutes late to the bar on Stokes Croft and ordered a hot chocolate. In July. Since then I've learnt that you sleep with a sock on your left foot only, and that you say "right" before every big decision. You also cry at insurance adverts. I don't know where we are today. This is where I am. Sam
Three years. You've still got the chipped mug from the first flat. Don't throw it out.
Maureen, We met at a dance at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, and you trod on my foot twice. You say it was me. I'm writing this for our thirty years. When you read it, it'll be forty. I hope we're still arguing about who trod on whose foot. It was you. Ray
Common questions
How do you make an original declaration of love?
By talking about what you've observed rather than what you feel in general: a habit, or a specific memory they don't know you've kept. And by choosing the moment. A message scheduled for a date that matters to the two of you carries more weight than one sent on impulse.
Can you schedule a declaration of love for a specific date?
Yes. On Capsül, you write your message and set the opening day, to the day. The day before, they're told by email that it's coming; the link follows on the date itself. Before that date, their link only shows a countdown. And the text can't be touched once it's sent.
Can you cancel a capsül if you break up?
No. Breaking up changes nothing: there's no deleting a sealed capsül, or changing a word of it. That's the flip side of the promise: what was written arrives. If the future feels uncertain, choose a short timeframe, or write a message that stays true even if the relationship ends.
Should you tell them a message is waiting?
Not necessarily. By default, Capsül lets them know as soon as you send it, without revealing the content, and you can untick that notification so they only find out the day before. Knowing a message is waiting builds curiosity for months. Not knowing makes it a surprise. Choose according to the person.
